{"id":5756,"date":"2009-08-14T12:18:21","date_gmt":"2009-08-14T12:18:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=5756"},"modified":"2009-08-14T12:18:21","modified_gmt":"2009-08-14T12:18:21","slug":"amazon-ranking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=5756","title":{"rendered":"Amazon ranking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I admit that one of my time-wasting, egocentric computer activities is to check the day&#8217;s Amazon rank of my more recent books by means of a tool called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.titlez.com\/app\/myTZ.aspx\">Title Z<\/a>. It gives you graphs of all the titles you choose on one page.<\/p>\n<p>The Amazon rank of any given book seems to pop around pretty randomly and must be  sensitive to even one purchase. But the idea behind Title Z is that you can get meaningful information if you take a snapshot every day. I don&#8217;t know whether that&#8217;s true, but here is the daily sale&#8217;s rank of my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1584656484\/ref=nosim\/theplanningsh-20\">The Future of Democracy <\/a>book since August 17, 2007:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.titlez.com\/app\/ChartImages\/Chart_59.jpg?KxRx=0x04774\" width=\"319\" height=\"50\"><\/p>\n<p>Low is good: a score of 1 would mean that the book was Amazon&#8217;s current best-seller. Today happens to be the worst score ever. Who knows if that&#8217;s meaningful, but there do seem to be trends in the graph (not just noise).
