{"id":4965,"date":"2006-05-09T17:05:17","date_gmt":"2006-05-09T17:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=4965"},"modified":"2006-05-09T17:05:17","modified_gmt":"2006-05-09T17:05:17","slug":"the-future-of-gay-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=4965","title":{"rendered":"the future of gay rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the <em>Detroit News<\/em>, Deb Price has an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.detnews.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20060508\/OPINION03\/605080312&#038;SearchID=73243953451595\">article <\/a>entitled, &#8220;Gay marriage&#8217;s future lies with DotNet youngsters.&#8221; She writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Even two years ago, 15- to 25-year-olds favored gay marriage by 56 percent to 39 percent, according to a national survey by the University of Maryland&#8217;s youth think tank, the Center for Information &#038; Research on Civic Learning &#038; Engagement (CIRCLE at civicyouth.org).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Each generation has come of age being considerably more tolerant and become even more so,&#8221; says CIRCLE director Peter Levine, who tracked the attitudes of generational groups over time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This youngest generation is very tolerant, a very large group, and they have turned around the voting decline in the first election in which they could vote.
