{"id":4961,"date":"2006-05-03T15:17:16","date_gmt":"2006-05-03T15:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=4961"},"modified":"2006-05-03T15:17:16","modified_gmt":"2006-05-03T15:17:16","slug":"sites-for-youth-discussion-and-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=4961","title":{"rendered":"sites for youth discussion and debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several ambitious websites try to give young Americans a voice in politics and policy:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youthpolicyactioncenter.org\/\">The Youth Policy Action Center<\/a> is an elaborate site that supports discussion of issues, provides links to opportunities for voting and volunteering, puts people in touch with like-minded peers, and shows off youth-produced videos and other media. It&#8217;s a product of about 80 leading youth-oriented organizations.\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.associationofyoungamericans.org\/\">Association of Young Americans<\/a> is an &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.peterlevine.ws\/mt\/archives\/000266.html\">AARP for youth<\/a>,&#8221; an idea that I floated in an earlier post. The AYP website provides issue briefs, mostly on economic matters of special relevance to the younger generations of Americans, and forums for discussion.\n<li>The Constitutional Rights Foundation&#8211;a group that I work with fairly often&#8211;has launched <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crfforum.org\/\">CRF Forum: For Youth, by Youth<\/a>. Again, there is a discussion forum, a set of issue briefs, and opportunities to become involved. CRF is also running a photo contest. It&#8217;s great to organize contests for young media-creators, because <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peterlevine.ws\/mt\/archives\/000815.html\">their lack of audience is a big problem<\/a>.\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alternet.org\/wiretap\/\">WireTap <\/a>is part of the AlterNet network, and it dates back to 1998. Its large audience consists of young (18-25) progressives.
