{"id":35679,"date":"2026-05-19T10:02:06","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T14:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=35679"},"modified":"2026-05-19T10:02:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T14:02:07","slug":"an-overview-of-civics-in-higher-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=35679","title":{"rendered":"an overview of civics in higher education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On April 10, the Tisch College of Civic Life at Tufts University and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoover.org\/research-teams\/alliance-civics-academy\">Alliance for Civics in the Academy (ACA)<\/a>, with support from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wgbh.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GBH<\/a>, held a <a href=\"https:\/\/tischcollege.tufts.edu\/news-events\/conferences\/civics-higher-education\">one-day national summit on civics in higher education<\/a>. All day, we heard from leaders of exemplary programs that emphasize various combinations of community engagement, academic coursework, and research and experimentation on democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GBH has posted a video of the substantive portions of my opening remarks.
