{"id":17260,"date":"2016-08-11T10:00:16","date_gmt":"2016-08-11T14:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=17260"},"modified":"2016-08-11T10:13:00","modified_gmt":"2016-08-11T14:13:00","slug":"circle-analysis-of-clinton-and-the-youth-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=17260","title":{"rendered":"CIRCLE analysis of Clinton and the youth vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From today&#8217;s CIRCLE <a href=\"http:\/\/civicyouth.org\/exclusive-analysis-hillary-clinton-and-young-voters\/\">release<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><\/b><span class=\"s1\"><b><i>Young voters overwhelmingly favored Sanders in Democratic primary, but the general electorate offers more potential upside to Clinton than Trump; young women, black youth more likely to support Clinton<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.civicyouth.org\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning &amp; Engagement (CIRCLE)<\/span><\/a> \u2013 the preeminent, non-partisan research center on youth engagement at Tufts University\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/activecitizen.tufts.edu\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life<\/span><\/a> \u2013 today released an <a href=\"http:\/\/civicyouth.org\/exclusive-analysis-hillary-clinton-and-young-voters\"><span class=\"s2\">analysis<\/span><\/a> of young people\u2019s support and views of Secretary Clinton during this primary election cycle, exploring trends and implications for the general election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\"><b><i>How did Hillary Clinton perform among young people who voted in the primaries? And how did her youth support compare to that of previous Democratic nominees?<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li4\"><span class=\"s1\">Secretary Clinton won\u00a020 of the 27 state primaries for which exit poll data are available, but won the youth vote (ages 17-29) in just two of those states\u2014Alabama and Mississippi. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li4\"><span class=\"s1\">In these 27 states, she averaged only 28% of young voters, lagging far behind recent Democratic presidential nominees.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li4\"><span class=\"s1\">Secretary Clinton performed relatively better with young African Americans and she did better with slightly older youth (ages 25-29).<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li4\"><span class=\"s1\">Data from Super Tuesday primaries indicate that young women were more likely to support Secretary Clinton than young men; but young women still supported her at lower levels than did older women.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\"><b><i>How do young people overall view Hillary Clinton?
