{"id":14124,"date":"2014-08-04T10:05:15","date_gmt":"2014-08-04T14:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=14124"},"modified":"2014-08-04T10:05:15","modified_gmt":"2014-08-04T14:05:15","slug":"youth-participatory-budgeting-boston","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=14124","title":{"rendered":"youth participatory budgeting in Boston"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In lieu of a substantive post here today, I&#8217;d like to link to my article in <em>Transformations<\/em> entitled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opendemocracy.net\/transformation\/peter-levine\/you-can-add-us-to-equations-but-they-never-make-us-equal-participatory-b\">You can add us to equations but they never make us equal: participatory budgeting in Boston<\/a>.&#8221; It&#8217;s a reported piece; I didn&#8217;t conduct formal research, but I attended a key meeting, talked to the kids, and noted my impressions. I believe that\u00a0asking kids to allocate $1 million of\u00a0city funds is an excellent\u00a0idea. It not only involves them in <em>deliberation<\/em> but also requires them to do\u00a0collaborative <em>work<\/em> (analyzing and vetting proposals) and builds <em>relationships<\/em>.
