They did this work on a subcontract from us, and I summarize their findings on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracyfund.org\/blog\/entry\/guest-post-new-reports-evaluates-the-use-of-google-hangouts-and-other-forma\">Democracy Fund&#8217;s website<\/a> today. They found, among other things, that people learned the most information from videos or text explanations. People absorbed <em>somewhat<\/em> less factual information if they deliberated instead of watching or reading explanations, but they gained more commitment to civil dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Gastil&#8217;s Democracy Institute has established a national award for \u201cexceptional innovations that advance the design and practice of democracy.\u201d &#8220;The Penn State Democracy Medal will celebrate the best work being done to advance democracy in the United States or around the globe.&#8221; Nomination letters must be emailed by December 10, 2013 to <a href=\"mailto:democracyinst@psu.edu\">democracyinst@psu.edu<\/a>.
